As we all start a brand new journey in 2021, it's important that we take some time to focus on ourselves. Last year was definitely a year to remember. There were so many changes that impacted everyone in this nation, and there were so many obstacles that we either all faced collectively or individually. The pandemic changed our entire daily routines, whether it was health related, career wise, or on a personal level with our families, we were all effected by the chain of events.
I'm sure that everyone was more than ready for a brand new year. Even if it helped to give them an inkling of hope for somewhat of a brand new start. Although things may have carried over into this year, we can all agree that we were ready to create a new beginning!
It's so important to take time out for ourselves. As a wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend and entrepreneur -- I am constantly pouring into everyone else and giving of myself in all lanes that point to providing and doing for those that I love. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with giving to others, but you have to pour into yourself first. This will allow you to give to others with the full capacity to do so.
One thing that I vowed to do this year, was to focus on me and my peace. I wear many hats on a daily basis, so there was no question that I embarked on my journey to improving my self care for 2021. I made a promise to myself to take care of me first.
Below are a few things that I decided to do daily and/or weekly to make sure that I am recharging myself. There's room to be the best me, the best mom, the best wife, the best friend, and daughter that I can possibly be without feeling like I have absolutely nothing left for ME.
I'd like to share these tips with you -- in hopes to encourage you! The one time to be selfish is when you allow yourself to think of your own sanity, the strength of your own mental health and your overall well being. Simply put -- it's ok to focus on you -- because after all, you matter too!
Tip 1 - Fuel your spirit!
Start your day with a prayer, reading your favorite quote, a personal affirmation or even taking a bit of time to journal something positive. Whatever it takes to get your spirit in the right space, do that! Clear your mind and set the tone for the rest of your day.
Tip 2 - Make your bed!
I'm sure you've all heard -- when you make your bed in the morning, it helps get your day started! It's almost the first major task that you can check off of your "To Do" list, especially if you're like me and one of those tasks entails cleaning your home. Just think, when you can tidy up your room, knowing that when it's time to wind down at the end of the day, you're not presented with clutter and chaos -- you're on your way! Trust me, it makes life so much better.
Tip 3 - Write down your 'Top 3' tasks!
Take time to write down your "Top 3" things you want to accomplish for the day. Now, I'm sure your list exceeds 3 tasks, but get those top 3 tasks written down so that you can narrow down at least 3 of the most important things that you need to accomplish. I took this piece of advice from "Erin on Demand" and it has worked wonders for my productivity throughout the day.
Tip 4 - Get some Alone Time!
Take some time out of your day or during the week to get some alone time, whether it's just to sit in silence, taking a walk around your neighborhood or just simply doing something that you absolutely enjoy...make sure you do it.
Tip 5 - Pamper Yourself!
Whether it's going to the spa for a relaxing facial or body massage, getting a normal mani-pedi, or simply running a bubble bath at the end of the day. Find time to relax and enjoy a spa experience.
Tip 6 - Prioritize Yourself!
Prioritize yourself! Prioritize yourself!
